February 22nd – 24th 2019
SEM will be an official host venue for the upcoming Marcus Intalex workshops this February. The events which take place from February 22nd – 24th will celebrate the life of Manchester based drum and bass producer Marcus Intalex.
Marcus Julian Kaye (14 July 1971 – 28 May 2017) better known by his stage name Marcus Intalex, was a British drum and bass artist who additionally made house and techno music under the pseudonym Trevino. He was well known on the Manchester gig circuit at the same time as SEM staff members Patrick Shambrook, Damian Fielder and Ian Walpole were all active participants in the local scene.
“It’s an honour for me to be involved in the MIMF. When I came to Manchester in er (cough..1995) as a eager jungle/drum n bass DJ the music was pretty much banned in the city! Both Marcus and Mark XTC (Da Intalex) were a shining light for me pushing the sound i loved. They welcomed me into the community, where I ended up working with a lot of amazing people, putting on club nights at the music box, DJing across the city and appearing on their Kiss FM show! Still to this day a massive inspiration for me.”
WK:END MIMF’s first ever creative music workshops will give local music producers, DJs and engineers the opportunity to take part in a selection of sessions hosted by well known names such as Afrodeutsche, Dub Phizix, Jenna G, Zed Bias and more.
The sessions will offer one to one support from the aforementioned artists, whilst it will also give attendees the opportunity to explore hardware and software in order to develop skills for both in the studio and live performance.
The weekend has also planned a selection of live performances which include the launch party featuring Fabio, Dub Phizix, Zed Bias and more at YES, Actress DJ set at Gorilla, and a weekend closing party featuring a DJ set from Floating Points at Band on The Wall.
One of Marcus’ greatest passions was to encourage and guide aspiring music talent as well as pass on the knowledge he himself acquired over the course of his long-standing and successful career and the Marcus Intalex Foundation aims to continue working in this spirit.
Over the coming months their plan is to host workshops, studio sessions, seminars and events; which will give people the opportunity to explore, learn and immerse themselves in music.
