What’s On In Manchester

We give you SEM’s monthly roundup of the best music events taking place in the Manchester
area throughout April 2018.

Manchester’s co-operative Arts and Social Space Partisan hosts an all day party featuring some of the best DJ’s Manchester has to offer. Soup Kitchen DJS will play alongside DJs from Eastern Bloc , NTS, B.L.O.O.M and more. Live visuals, retro video games, record store pop up stalls and a selection of great food will all be on offer and entry is free or by donation on the door.
Sunday April 8th
Disruption x Emergent at Band on the Wall
SEM student Johnny James joins 2 young composers for an afternoon of digital performances at Band on the Wall. The three artists will perform new compositions which explore a range of audio format technologies. Expect a variety of sound art and technological approaches including coding, Arduino, lasers, electronics and granular synthesis. We spoke to Johnny about the event in this interview here.
Thursday 12th April
Lee Gamble (Live) and RKSS at Band on the Wall
Lee Gamble brings his unique blend of rave, dubstep, techno and jungle to Band on the Wall where he’ll perform a very rare live AV show.
The live show which accompanies his latest release ‘Mnestic Pressure’ is said to play with the idea of the advertising blitz of today’s cities and virtual spaces. Expect flash projections, flashing sequences and high contrast images which will ‘trick the eye/brain into a micro-hallucination state’
Friday 20th April
Floating Points All Night Long at Gorilla
Expect the unexpected when Floating Points takes to the decks at Gorilla. It’s no secret that the neuroscientist-turned-DJ has a passion for crate digging and previous DJ sets have spanned the genres. Think spacious cosmic jazz mixed with beatless neo-classical, gangsta rap faded into disco and African obscurities. His 5 hour long set should feature something to please everyone.
Record Store Day Saturday 21st April
Eastern Bloc Presents
Record Store Day returns to Manchester and once again Eastern Bloc is celebrating the event with an all day lineup of top acts. DJs kick off at 9am and don’t finish until 2am, giving you 17 hours of live music spanning all genres. From funk and soul, to techno and drum and bass, expect an eclectic mix while you browse their special Record Store Day offers.
Piccadilly Records & Common Presents
Francis Lung, The Foetals, Secret Admirer, Pins DJ set, Piccadilly Records DJ set
Nothern Quarter cafe Common joins the celebrations teaming up with Piccadilly Records to present a day of live music for Record Store Day.
Live performances come from Manchester based Singer Songwriter Francis Lung amongst others whilst all female rockers Pins will take to the DJ booth alongside Piccadilly Records DJs.
