10 Top Tips for Trance Artists Launching a Career

It was 2016 when Jack Broom completed the Music Business course at SEM. Since completing the course he has gone on to setup 1712 Artists. In 2017 1712 Artists set up their own publishing company allowing them to publish music for their artists and have since organised successful tours across Italy, Russia, South America and the UK.
Jack gives us his 10 tips for trance producers starting out in the music industry.

Think before you sign
Do NOT sign anything you are unsure about
Look for a manager
Look for an artist manager first, BUT do NOT rush this process.
Find the right manager for you
Hold out for the right manager and do not not just take a manager for the sake of looking professional.
first and foremost hone your craft
Focus on crafting your productions first and foremost. When you are 90% finished, create a shortlist of labels you think the music fits then create a top three (what I call benchmark labels).
Be patient
Send out your music to your first choice label. Industry standard is to wait two weeks before you send a follow up. If you hear nothing back 48 hours after your follow up e-mail it is fine to assume you can move on to the next label.
Think before you send your music to labels
Whatever you do, do NOT send out music to multiple labels at the same time. This is may lead to disappointment if a label chooses to sign you and later realises you’ve assigned the tracks to someone else.
Communicate clearly with labels
Always communicate clearly and honestly with labels, especially when it comes to release dates . Most labels will be accommodating as they do not want their release to clash with one of your other releases.
Time your releases
Aim to release at x1 EP maximum per month, x4 paid remixes and x4 profile building remixes per year. The x4 profile builders would be for bigger labels or artists.
Don’t rush to release your music
REMEMBER: These targets are a guide to aspire to and it may take a while for you to reach this pace.
Think outside of the box
EXPERIMENT and ENJOY creating music. Take chances. The pioneers in music or any other field are the people who do things differently. Think outside the box. The beauty of electronic music is there are a lot less boundaries.
