SEM celebrates International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day returns on Thursday March 8th and to celebrate, SEM is joining forces with Manchester based collective Queen Bees to curate a week of free events and workshops for women.
Our week of events begins on March 5th when we’ll be delivering a series of courses specifically for anyone identifying as female. Our Music Production Taster Courses will give you the opportunity to make music on the newly released Ableton Live 10, and our DJ Taster Courses to learn basic beatmatching skills using top of the range equipment – beginners very welcome! Our Meet and Greet is open to all genders, and is a great opportunity to gain advice from industry professionals and meet like-minded people, regardless of what stage you’re at in the music industry.

This year, we’ve teamed up with Queen Bees and Bee Creative. Queen Bees is a Manchester based project run by females for females. The project which has been running since 2014 is the brainchild of SEM Music Technology teacher Nikki Crowley, who has been working with young people since 2009. The project aims to teach females how to DJ, produce, write lyrics, record and engineer and gives females the opportunity to gain new skills to help them gain success in the music industry. As a sub-project of Bee Creative, it exists to train people locally that may not have access to the industry. The project has already helped individuals build confidence and skillset to help further their social development and to gain opportunities, find employment or set up their own business in creative industries.
