SEM: School of Electronic Music
For a school dedicated to the music scene it was only fitting that we celebrate our rebrand with a buzzing launch party in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Creative event space Texture provided the ideal venue for the SEM team to welcome local industry faces, friends of the school and of course students past and present to celebrate all things electronic music.
Splashed across the venue was the brand new SEM logo within a graphic lightshow designed by audio visual artist Sean Clarke who runs the highly recommended Test Card night at Texture.
A selection of DJs who’ve graduated from our Complete DJ Course took to the raised DJ podium to provide some serious beats covering multiple genres and styles demonstrating the talent we’re proud to have nurtured.
The night’s highlights included a debut set of “Funky Tech’ from Nickie Kelly. Achieving a “dormant 17 year dream” to DJ publicly Nickie, who is a mother to three baby boys totally smashed it, bringing some serious heat on the decks.
Established DJ/Producer and SEM ambassador LilRockit also took to the turntables bringing the signature blend of “Big Room” Tribal and Tech House that has taken her to Creamfields, Ibiza and beyond. Since studying at SEM Lil Rockit has developed her production skills and grown her following.
“It was great to see so much new DJ talent come together for the SEM rebrand. SEM is a great contribution to Manchester’s nightlife. I think it’s brilliant that at the end of the DJ course you are able to experience playing in a live club atmosphere.”

After 21 Years
as school of electronic music, we became the School of Electronic Music to reflect the school’s evolving reach and growing course programme.
Alongside our rebrand SEM is excited to be unveiling a new student social and venue space in early 2018, where the face of the school will reflect what we stand for; inclusivity, community and creativity. Expect more events in the coming year and many more exciting things to come in the form of podcasts, workshops, masterclasses and jams.
