10 Twitter Tips for Musicians and DJs

You may see social media as a minefield however, as a musician or DJ, it should play a pivotal role in your marketing strategy. We give you 10 Twitter tips for musicians and DJs to help you get the best from the social media platform.

Brand Your Profile
Make sure your profile page is branded with good quality images. Using low resolution images will make you look unprofessional. To avoid image stretching use an image that is at least 1500 px by 500 px for your header picture and an image at least 400 px by 400 px for your profile picture.
Fill In Your Bio
Make sure you fill in your Twitter bio. Using keywords in your bio will help you appear in twitter searches and it’s often a good idea to make sure your location is mentioned as well as the genres of music you produce. Take advantage of the website field however if you don’t have an official website, use this to link to your Facebook, Soundcloud or Instagram account.
Follow Similar Accounts
Following others will gain you more followings. When you first begin don’t worry too much about your follower to following ratio. It’s better to have a captive audience that appreciates your content than thousands of followers with no interest in your posts. Research local and genre specific accounts that share similar interests and try to engage with them when possible.
Tweet More Photos
Statistics show that including a photo in your tweet will give it a 19% advantage over those without. Including a photo is likely to make your tweet stand out more and should lead to an increase in interaction.
Use Hashtags
Increase your chances of a retweet by including 1 or two hashtags in your tweets. It is said that inclusion of a hashtag could increase your visibility by 55%.
Share and Get Shared
Not all content on your timeline needs to be original posts. Take your time to see what’s being posted by others and if something sparks your interest, re-share it. Re-sharing content is likely to spark engagement and will make others with similar interests aware of your account.
Be Sociable
Keep and eye on your twitter activity and respond to anyone that replies to your tweets. Increasing engagement with your audience is likely to keep them interested and will make them feel appreciated.
Ask Questions
Ask questions or use the poll feature to find out your audience’s opinion on hot topics. Users are more likely to respond to a question than to any other type of tweet.
Keep An Eye On Trending Topics
Keep an eye on trending topics. Altering your settings to view trends in your local area is a great way to see what people nearby are tweeting about and this offers you the opportunity to interact with potential new fans within a close proximity.

Remember that your social media profiles act as a platform to sell your brand. Refrain from using language that may be perceived as offensive in any way.
